“Heads will roll!” Conosci questa frase?
Conoscere i modi di dire in inglese è fondamentale per qualsiasi studente “serio”. Fermarsi a traduzioni letterali rischia di portarti fuori strada e, sul posto di lavoro, rischia di farti fare una brutta figura.
Heads will roll significa che qualcuno verrà severamente punito. Questa espressione iperbolica allude alla punizione di essere decapitati.
Non è facile imparare le frasi idiomatiche perché danno alle parole un nuovo significato. Molte frasi hanno doppi sensi e sono usati in modo metaforico, il che confonde gli studenti.
